Separating Intercrops

McArthur BDC and JK Machinery have developed a range of vibrating sieve cleaners specifically designed to separate and clean bi-crops to a high standard in a single pass. There are two ranges, the VibroCompact Intercropper and VibroMAX Intercropper. These machines will remove the post-harvest headache for the increasing number of farmers growing mixed crops.

In addition to processing intercrops both models can perform typical functions including cleaning crop for seed and grading crops to meet contract specifi cations. This range of functionality makes them an invaluable investment to farms adopting regenerative practises, looking to reduce seeds costs and maximising value of commodities prior to sale.

The Intercropper’s can be used in static or mobile applications, they may be incorporated into existing grain storage systems or operate as a standalone process. The function is similar to a standard sieve cleaner. Firstly, all the incoming crop is aspirated on the inlet, removing light impurities. The top sieve then removes large impurities. The crop then drops onto the middle sieve which separates the larger grains, e.g. beans or
peas, from the smaller grains, e.g. oats or wheat. The smaller grains drop onto the bottom sieve where the fi ne impurities are removed. Both separated crops are then individually aspirated at the outlet. The process
can be controlled by changing sieve sizes, changing sieve box angle and changing air flows.

Application

  • Avoidance of unnecessary cost and carbon generated by mixed crop haulage
  • Reduced weight loss through close control of separation and cleaning process
  • All co-products retained for use on farm
  • Ability to independently market separated crops
  • Simple, effective and efficient single pass separation process
  • Capability to clean other crops to meet contract specifi cation including bushel weight, screenings and admixture.
  • Opportunity to independently re-clean grain for seed on farm
